With all the hubbub around who will be selected as Secretary of State in the new Trump Administration, we would like to name our Secretary of State for Australia’s Barossa Valley: the TWO HANDS Bella’s Garden Shiraz. Aged and experienced to a point of mature and ambassadorial countenance, the 2009 bottling of this classic Shiraz (a.k.a. Syrah) has the stature to represent the world view of Australia’s great and revered Barossa wine region. Grace, balance and finesse are important qualities to political negotiations on the world’s stage, and the Bella’s Garden reigns supreme in these key areas. Robust and rich in elegantly structured flavors of blackberry and dark plum, along with a sensuous note of sumptuous violets, the red wine is super smooth and whole—super-fine tannins guide you gently yet confidently to a finish of beautiful length. There’s power on display here—cerebral yet attractive and sexy. Grace, power and sex appeal: perhaps this Shiraz has what it takes to bring about a world peace agreement. –J.M.
