True Blood may be off the air, but the synthetic blood for vampires called “True Blood” is still out on the streets. It’s now manufactured in Argentina, in the heart of Mendoza, and has been repackaged as the SUSANA BALBO Brioso. Viscous as fresh blood, the 2010 vintage is a deep, thick purple—and the intense concentration of blackberry, boysenberry, plum, dark cherry, and mocha plus a tinge of herbs on the finish is something you want to drink in the dead of night, not while you are exposed to the daylight. The beverage has undeniable seductive power—we do know the vampires of Bon Temps, Louisiana, had a penchant for hardcore sex. This is a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with a bit more Malbec than usual to give it the extra Southern Hemisphere exotic flair. Big and potent, it will make you feel immortal. Utterly delicious and necessary for survival. –J.M.
