Great Wine: Sequana Sundawg Ridge Pinot Noir

By

The Seine River, which flows through the heart of Paris, is one of the great waterways of Europe. Sequana, in Gaelic and Roman mythology, is its goddess who lives at the source. The river itself is a life force that changed the course of history—time lapse paintings and photographs can take you from Medieval times to the great marketplace of the French Monarchy—and motion pictures of the 20th and 21st century have captured so romantically the bustling metropolis that lies on both sides of its banks today. The force of nature that gives life to every great river exists in the bountiful wine that is the 2007 SEQUANA Sundawg Ridge Pinot Noir, borne out of California’s Russian River. As ethereal as the goddess that inspired the winery’s namesake, this Pinot’s beauty is in its soft but rich texture, deep concentration of ripe dark berries, and a hint of tea leaves and sweet exotic spices on the earthly finish. Once this red wine’s life force is within you, and you are within it, what new creations and new inventions will you, like the river, give birth to? On this river of inspiration, go with the flow and let the goddess be your guide.  –J.M.
