The 2007 SEGHESIO Cortina Zinfandel is so superbly proportioned, you might think the 15.5% alcohol content is 13.5%. The big, round and perfectly ripe fruit is in delightful interplay with unique, dusty tannins and sterling acidity on the finish—all of it capturing a real sense of the Dry Creek terroir—the gravelly soil in which these planted roots raised the old vines that have produced, for generations, the glorious grapes that make this wine. It represents a great tradition of winemaking, yet looks forward and stays timeless. A special wine and a beautiful expression of California grape. –J.M.
