Perhaps the finest affordably-priced sparkling wine out there. Something about the elevation and cool, foggy conditions of the far north California coast that makes for a highly distinctive, estate-grown Chardonnay (60%) and Pinot Noir (40%), as well as a portion of aged reserve wine, that go into the ROEDERER ESTATE BRUT bubbly. Yes, the same Roederer winery that makes an iconic French Champagne called Cristal. This is love at first taste. So elegantly crisp—the bubbles are energizing, refreshing, enlivening—and incredible clarity and purity for the price. Through the inviting notes of pear, toast, hazelnut and buttery lemon custard, there is irrepressible charm, presence, brilliance and, let’s not forget to mention, tastiness. So deeply gratifying, it makes one glad to be alive as only a great glass of sparkling wine can do. –J.M.
