I’m a big fan of wines from South Africa, and I opened up a 2008 KANONKOP Kadette made from Pinotage, an indigenous red grape of Africa, and other Bordeaux varietals. Delicious! Dry, fruity with thick chocolaty character up front, then a niiiice spicy, peppery finish to give it a fleeting air of the exotic—like being on an African safari and spotting a rare gazelle out of the corner of your eye before it runs away. –J.M.
