Siena, the province of Tuscany, is known to leave a traveler awestruck with wonder. This handsome son-of-a-gun of a Chianti was born there, grew up there and has made its way around the globe, establishing a reputation as one of the most admired and respected Chiantis the world has come to know. The 2010 FELSINA Rancia Chianti Classico Riserva possesses a stately elegance. Dark-toned in character, with its powerfully expressive aromas & flavors of blue flowers and wild dark berries—as well as young raspberries and cranberries—along a consistent note of lightly toasted oak and allspice, the Sangiovese wine impresses the most, at the finish, with its long and lean form. This is a tall, dark and handsome Italian model, with 5 o’clock shadow beneath the chiseled cheekbones, outfitted in a slim fit Canali suit. Not just refined, but with saltiness around the edges to complement its aura of power and success. Ageworthy but always dashing. A truly impressive Tuscan wine. –J.M.
