Pure and pristine as the snowy white Edelweiss flower of the European Alps, this Chenin Blanc wine from DOMAINE HUET is something that blooms and grows with every sip. The warm honeysuckle glow and apple and white peach flavor at its center is met with a zingy attack of lime zest on the finish. The dance between warm and floral quality against dry and mineral texture of the 2011 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec is a lilting waltz, flowing and sentimental but sharp and precise. There is deep love at the heart of this wine. Not just in how its esteemed winemaker, Noël Pinguet, has lovingly crafted the wine for over 30 years at this estate, but also in the resulting purity of expression of the biodynamically grown Chenin Blanc grape and Vouvray terroir. This is wine that stirs the heart. Something to have whilst remembering a lost loved one or a home one had to leave behind. The beautiful wine won’t allow you to wallow in sadness but, rather, re-experience your affection for what you once had. –J.M.
