This one was recommended to me by a Frenchman at the wine store. He smacked his lips along with a very French hand gesture and said the 2010 DOMAINE DU GRAND MONTMIRAIL Vacqueyras was “beautiful” and as good as much higher priced Chateauneuf du Pape. He was right. After all, the French are always right—so I should have never doubted him. At just over 20 dollars, it’s a shockingly good achievement. Emphasizing many of the soft and forward fruit qualities of a Burgundy, this Grenache/Syrah blend is atypical for a Southern Rhone blend. It’s fragrance, texture and length are totally seductive.
