Great Wine: Curran Grenache Blanc

By

Nothing says Spring like Grenache Blanc. And CURRAN’s Grenache Blanc, from Santa Barbara County, is one of California’s best. Something about the warmth and sunniness of the pear, peach, honeysuckle and tangerine oil flavors, with a hint of menthol, that evoke the rebirth and renewal of springtime. The 2014 bottling is a life-affirming white wine, pristinely dry but gregariously fruity. There are no edges to the wine, only curves and contours. Forthright in its insistence to stay positive and inspirational, the lightly sweet wine is the embodiment of Deepak Chopra or Joel Osteen, whatever your preference. This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. So goes the Psalm. And this is, indeed, happy wine.  –J.M.

Our 2009 Vintage Review:

[dropcap size=dropcap]I[/dropcap]f the best red wines are deep and philosophical and the stuff of passion, then the best white wines are ultimately a celebration and reminders of the joy of life. The 2009 CURRAN Grenache Blanc dazzles, delights and delivers instant happiness. Its honeysuckle sweetness and crisp acidity will make you clap along because you feel like a room without a roof and because happiness is the truth. This is exuberant wine, full of joie de vivre, and, for the money, easily one of California’s great whites.  –J.M.  10/1/2014
