The sibling rival to Spain’s sublime Ribera del Duero wine, Toro is the poor man’s alternative. That’s said tongue in cheek, because a good Toro like this 2007 TESO LA MONJA ALMIREZ will cost you in the region of $25. It’s worth it for just a glimpse of the awesome smoothness, finesse and delicacy of Spain’s greatest wines. It’s all there, the distinctive Spanish character and seductive Tempranillo fruit. Just one sip, and I went down the path of temptation and sinfulness, and just couldn’t stop . . . -J.M.
